Gifted and Talented Project

By law, school districts in Texas are required to adapt the educational experience for Special Populations, including students identified as Gifted and Talented. Click here to view State Board of Education rules: 19 TAC Chapter 89 Subchapter A .The staff at HPMS want to challenge and enrich our students who are gifted and give them opportunties to personalize their educational experience in middle school.

During the 2023-2024 school year, students identified as *GT at Hal Peterson Middle School will participate in character-building lessons and a Community Impact Project during the weekly SPIKE Time on Wednesdays. Students were able to choose to work by themselves or with a partner to identify a problem or area for improvement in our campus community. Students were encouraged to think about their "circle of control" and "circle of influence" when creating a project proposal to submit to their lead GT teacher. Students will work on their own background research and public proposal to present to families, school staff, and community leaders at the GT Showcase on May 2nd.

For more specific information or if you have a question, please contact your student's lead GT teacher:
