HPMS Students Place in Region Orchestras

Kerrville, TX (Oct. 27, 2022) – Several Hal Peterson Middle School students earned spots in the UIL Region Orchestras after a round of auditions recently.

Students earning spots in the Philharmonic Orchestra are eighth graders Reese Schwartz, 5th chair, violin; Eme Evans, 3rd chair, Julian Duarte, 5th chair, Marlee Forrester, 8th chair, Violet Sanchez, 12th chair-all on viola; and Julia Veurink, 7th chair on cello.

Students earning spots in the String Orchestra are seventh graders Ashlyn Cowen, 38th chair on violin; Arnel Dequina, 8th chair and Eloise Baetz, 13th chair-both on viola.

“These kids are amazing,” said HPMS Orchestra Director Karen Billingsley. “They worked very hard and all came in top spots. I’m very proud of them.”

Other schools in the audition pool included Del Rio, Boerne, Northside ISD, San Antonio ISD, Judson ISD and Schertz-Cibolo.

These students will have the opportunity to go through a rehearsal and clinic followed by a concert Dec. 9 and 10.
